Fin (formerly Intercom)8.9

The reference implementation of outcome pricing, and the only major agent here that does not require you to move your helpdesk. Fin sits on top of Zendesk, Freshdesk, Salesforce or nothing at all, charges $0.99 per outcome, and publishes the rate on the pricing page. Three things to know before you sign. First, "outcome" is defined by Fin as a resolution, a procedure handoff, or a disqualification — and a resolution is "no further help is requested after the last AI answer", which means a customer who simply stops replying counts. Second, there is a 50-outcome monthly minimum standalone, so it is not a tool you switch on for a quiet support desk. Third, ownership changed: Intercom renamed itself Fin in May 2026 and Salesforce closed its acquisition of the company on 2026-09-10 for roughly $3.6 billion. Pricing did not move at the close, but a published, never-discounted outcome price is a strategic asset a new owner can re-price.

Pricing: Fin AI Agent $0.99 per outcome · $9.99 per sales qualification · 50-outcome/month minimum standalone · seats $29/seat/mo annual Essential ($39 monthly), $85 ($99) Advanced, $132 ($139) ExpertBest for: Teams that want an AI agent on top of the helpdesk they already use

Zendesk8.7

The incumbent, and the one most buyers end up on because it already holds their tickets. Zendesk folded its old standalone Support tiers into the Suite line and now includes AI agents on every plan — but the included allowance is tiny: 5 automated resolutions per agent per month on Suite Team, 10 on Professional, 15 on Enterprise. Beyond that, resolutions bill at $1.50 committed or $2.00 pay-as-you-go, and there is no cap on the meter. A five-agent team automating 750 conversations a month pays roughly $1,125 in resolutions on top of $575 in seats. Stack the Advanced AI add-on at $50 per agent and you have roughly doubled the sticker. Zendesk also bought Forethought on 2026-03-26 and resells it as "Advanced AI Agents", quote-only — so the number you negotiate is the number that matters.

Pricing: Suite Team $55/agent/mo annual ($69 monthly) · Suite Professional $115 ($149) · Support Team $19 email-only · 5/10/15 automated resolutions per agent/month included · extra resolutions $1.50 committed / $2.00 pay-as-you-go · Advanced AI add-on +$50/agent/mo · Suite Enterprise quote-onlyBest for: Mid-market teams already running support inside Zendesk

Gorgias8.4

The only major platform that bills the helpdesk by ticket volume with unlimited seats, which is exactly the right shape for ecommerce: you hire for a sale season without the seat bill moving. The AI Agent is a separate meter at $1.00 per resolved interaction monthly or $0.90 annual ($0.85 on Advanced), and it only charges for conversations it closes end to end — a handoff to a human is not billed as an AI resolution. What you actually get for the money is order actions: cancel, refund, resend a label, swap a size, driven straight off the Shopify order rather than explained to the customer. Two caveats. Moving from per-ticket to per-resolution pricing means your bill now scales with AI success, not with headcount. And check the interaction between the two meters — ask in writing whether a conversation your AI resolves still draws down the ticket allowance on your plan.

Pricing: Helpdesk by ticket volume, unlimited seats · Starter $10/mo (50 tickets) · Basic $60/mo ($50 annual, 300) · Pro $360/mo ($300 annual, 2,000) · Advanced $900/mo ($750 annual, 5,000) · ticket overage $0.40 or $0.36 · AI Agent $1.00 per resolved interaction monthly, $0.90 annual, $0.85 on AdvancedBest for: Shopify and ecommerce brands where order actions beat generic answers

HubSpot Breeze Customer Agent8.0

On 2026-04-14 HubSpot cut its customer agent from $1.00 per conversation to $0.50 per resolved conversation — the lowest per-resolution rate of any platform here, and half of Fin's. HubSpot's own published number is a 65% resolution rate across more than 8,000 customers who had switched it on. The reason it is fourth rather than first is the cost of getting to that rate: Breeze Customer Agent is not sold standalone, it needs Service Hub Professional or Enterprise, and the credits that pay for resolutions are sold at $9 per 1,000 annually. At 1,500 resolutions a month you are buying around $648 of credits on top of seats, every month. Excellent economics if HubSpot is already your CRM; a bad reason to move your CRM if it is not.

Pricing: Breeze Customer Agent $0.50 per resolved conversation (50 HubSpot credits; cut from $1.00 on 2026-04-14) · 28-day free trial · credits $9/1,000 annual · requires Service Hub Professional ($90/seat/mo) or Enterprise ($150/seat/mo) — not available on StarterBest for: Companies already running support inside HubSpot's CRM

Tidio Lyro7.5

The cheapest way to put a real AI agent in front of customers, and the hardest to forecast. There is a genuine free tier — 50 billable conversations plus 50 one-off Lyro conversations — and Starter at $29 a month covers a small store's chat volume. Lyro itself is trained off your help content without flow-building, handles about two-thirds of repetitive questions unattended on Tidio's own figure, and hands off with context when it runs out of answers. The problem is the meter: Lyro conversations are billed separately from the plan's billable conversations, Top-ups start around $39 a month for 50 conversations, and when the monthly Lyro quota is exhausted the AI does not degrade gracefully to a human — it stops answering for the rest of the month. For a store with spiky traffic, that is an operational risk you have to plan for, not a pricing rounding error.

Pricing: Free: 50 billable conversations + 50 one-off Lyro conversations · Starter $29/mo monthly ($24.17 annual), 100 billable conversations · Growth $59/mo monthly ($49.17 annual), from 250 billable conversations · Lyro conversations metered separately, add-on from about $39/mo per 50 · higher tiers quote-onlyBest for: Small stores that want AI answers and live chat on one cheap bill

What the comparison tables hide

2026 was the year every vendor renamed the same meter

In one year the whole category moved from selling you a seat to selling you an outcome — and gave the outcome a different name each time. Fin bills "outcomes" at $0.99. Zendesk bills "automated resolutions" at $1.50–$2.00 once you pass a token allowance. Gorgias bills "resolved interactions" at $0.90–$1.00. HubSpot bills "resolved conversations" at $0.50. Tidio bills "Lyro conversations" inside a separate quota. The names are marketing; the structure is identical, and it means your support bill now scales with your conversation volume instead of your headcount. That is a better deal for a growing company and a worse deal for a stable one with high volume.

"Resolved" is the vendor's word, not yours

Every per-outcome contract turns on a definition you probably did not read. Fin's own definition of a resolution is "no further help is requested after the last AI answer" — a customer who asks, gets an answer, and then simply goes quiet counts as resolved whether or not the problem is gone. Zendesk bills a conversation the agent closes without a human, verified before billing. HubSpot counts a conversation with no escalation and no negative feedback. None of these are dishonest; they are all simply not the same test. Write the definition into the contract and ask for the reporting that proves it, because it is the single largest lever on your invoice.

The included AI allowance is a trial, not a plan

Read the free allowance as a demo. Zendesk includes 5 automated resolutions per agent per month on Suite Team — a five-agent team gets 25, then pays per resolution indefinitely. HubSpot bundles credits with the seat tier and sells the rest at $9 per 1,000. Gorgias includes the agent on every plan but prices every automated interaction. Fin has a 50-outcome monthly minimum standalone. The pattern is the same everywhere: the allowance is sized to prove the product works, and the real relationship with your volume starts after it runs out. Model the overage line first and the seat line second.

Your support vendor is now an acquisition target — price the exit

Salesforce closed its roughly $3.6 billion purchase of Fin on 2026-09-10, about three months earlier than guided, and moved the company into Salesforce AI Labs with customer pricing untouched at the close. Zendesk completed its purchase of Forethought on 2026-03-26 and now sells it as Advanced AI Agents through sales. That is two of the five platforms here under new or newly consolidated ownership inside seven months, in a category where the pricing models are still being invented. Nothing broke — but before you build your support workflow on top of one of them, ask what the migration path is if the rate card you signed becomes an upsell into a CRM.

FAQ

How do I compare a per-outcome price with a per-seat price?

Stop comparing list prices and compare the only number that makes them commensurable: total monthly cost divided by conversations resolved. Take a Shopify store with five agents and 2,000 tickets a month where AI resolves 800. Gorgias lands near $1,020 a month (a $300 ticket-volume plan plus roughly $720 of resolutions) or about $0.51 per conversation. Zendesk lands near $1,700 ($575 of seats plus roughly $1,125 of resolutions) or about $0.85. Same workload, same automation, a 65% difference — and neither vendor's pricing page shows you that number. Build the fraction before you build the shortlist.

What is the cheapest way to actually start in 2026?

Depends on what you already own. If you have a helpdesk and just want AI on top of it, Fin at $0.99 per outcome with a 50-outcome minimum is the least commitment — no platform migration, no seat change. If you are a small store on Shopify, Tidio's free tier plus Lyro is genuinely free to trial and under $30 a month to run. If you are already on HubSpot, Breeze at $0.50 per resolved conversation is the cheapest resolution in the market and the only one where switching costs you nothing. If you have no helpdesk yet and want one bill, Gorgias' unlimited-seat ticket pricing is the least punishing as your team grows. What is not cheap is buying a seat-based AI add-on and discovering the resolution meter afterwards.

Why is Freshdesk (Freshworks) not in this list?

Because we could not confirm its price twice. When we checked on 2026-10-07, two of Freshworks' own pages listed different prices for the same plans — one showed Growth at $29 per agent per month and Pro at $79, the other showed $19 and $55, both labelled as annual billing. Freddy AI Agent is included with a one-time 500-session allowance and extra sessions at $49 per 100, which is clear enough, but we do not publish a seat price we cannot reproduce from a second independent source. Freshdesk is a real option and worth pricing directly; we just will not rank a number we cannot stand behind.

The verdict

Pick by where your customer data already lives, then budget for volume — not the other way round. Fin wins if you want the best-regarded agent in the category without moving your helpdesk, and the Salesforce ownership is a watch item rather than a blocker. Zendesk wins if your tickets are already there and you can negotiate the resolution rate, because the default rate is expensive and the included allowance is a rounding error. Gorgias wins for ecommerce, where unlimited seats plus per-ticket pricing survives a hiring spree and the AI can actually cancel an order. HubSpot wins on price per resolution — $0.50 is the best number in this list by a wide margin — but only for companies already inside HubSpot. Tidio wins on entry cost and loses on predictability. And whatever you choose, put one sentence in the contract: what counts as resolved.
